(RP=95) The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru is brilliant, soaring from the glass with dramatic aromas of cherries, raspberries, and sweet spices mingled with hints of rose petals, incense, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's rich and enveloping, with huge concentration and a compelling sense of completeness. Long and penetrating, this is a very impressive example of the vintage.
(AM=90-92) Once again very prominent wood surrounds the spicy and very floral aromas of very ripe blackberry fruit, exotic tea, and a whiff of mocha. The supple, seductive, and refined larger-scaled flavors exude a refreshing salinity on the warm, mildly sweet, and ever-so-slightly dry finish. This of course may better harmonize but today the balance isn't quite as well dialed in as it could be.
Note: from vines adjacent to those of Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Richebourg proper, totaling .31 ha; 100% new wood
