"(RP=95) Always early ripening but with the highest acidity of the grands crus, the 2014 Riesling Grand Cru Mandelberg Bottrytis LŠ—ÈException has a deep, very clear, intense and smoky/flinty bouquet with a beautiful fruit. Full-bodied, lush and finessed on the palate this is a rich and delicate, though full-bodied Riesling. There is generous fruit as well as a pure and salty texture. Great elegance and balance in the finish. This is great, gorgeous and beautiful Riesling for the next 20, maybe 30 years. (JS=91) There's a lot of caramel on the nose here, but on the palate this is pretty succulent. The alcohol provides some warmth, but there's enough acidity to hold the whole thing together. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. (AG=87) Full yellow. Exotic aromas of pineapple, honey and almond paste, plus a light marmalady botrytis quality. Very sweet and honeyed on entry, offering super-ripe fruit salad flavors cut by noteworthy acidity, but it still tastes heavy and chunky and could use more lift. Finishes with a suggestion of spicy botrytis and a repeating honeyed quality. This is essentially a Vendanges Tardives in everything but name, so itŠ—Ès not a dry white wine and will prove tough to pair with vegetable or fish dishes unless you like cream sauces. Bott believes this wine isnŠ—Èt that interesting when itŠ—Ès too dry, so he purposely harvests late to allow as much noble rot as possible for added complexity."
